Candle Safety & Use Instructions

WARNING - A lit candle is an open flame

Before Lighting Your Candle

Following proper candle burning tips before lighting will improve performance and safety.

  • Trim the wick: Always trim the wick to approximately ¼ inch before lighting.

  • Keep wax clean: Remove wick trimmings, matches, or debris from the wax.

  • Use a safe surface: Place candles on a heat-resistant, stable surface that can catch melted wax.

  • Check wick position: Straighten the wick to ensure an even burn.

Long or uneven wicks can cause dripping, flaring, or uneven burning and increase fire risk.

Burn in the Right Environment

Correct placement is key for both candle safety and performance.

  • Avoid drafts: Keep candles away from vents, windows, and air currents.

  • Ventilation matters: Burn candles in a well-ventilated space, but not in a direct draft.

  • Scent performance: Air movement or filtration may reduce scent throw.

Our candles are designed for different room sizes:

  • Companion candles: Suitable for spaces around 50 sq ft / 4.64 sq m.

  • Grand candles: Suitable for spaces around 200 sq ft / 18.58 sq m.

For best results, follow these candle burning tips:

  • Burn time: Do not burn for more than 4 hours at a time.

  • Cooling time: Allow at least 2 hours before relighting.

  • Use proper tools: Light candles with long matches or a long-reach lighter.

While Your Candle Is Burning

Safe use is essential when enjoying your handmade coconut wax and soy wax candles.

  • Never leave unattended: Always keep a burning candle in sight.

  • Keep away from flammable items: Furniture, curtains, paper and decorations.

  • Keep out of reach: Children and pets should never access burning candles.

  • Allow space: Keep candles at least 3 inches apart.

  • Avoid movement: Do not move candles while wax is hot.

Additional candle safety tips:

  • Extinguish the flame if it becomes too large or flickers repeatedly.

  • Stop use when around ½ inch of wax remains.

  • Never use candles as a night light or while sleeping.

  • Avoid use in enclosed spaces such as tents.

Candles release small amounts of carbon monoxide. Always follow proper candle safety practices to avoid unsafe exposure.

During Power Cuts

For safety, avoid using candles as your primary light source during power outages. Battery-powered lighting is a safer alternative.

Extinguishing Your Candle Safely

Follow these candle care tips when putting out your candle:

  • Use caution: Blow out carefully or use a snuffer or wick dipper.

  • Never use water: This can cause hot wax to splatter or glass to break.

  • Check fully extinguished: Ensure no glow or smoke remains.

  • Let it cool: Do not touch or move until fully cooled.

Avoid scraping wax with sharp objects, as this may damage containers.

Storing Your Candle

To keep your coconut wax and soy wax candles in the best condition:

  • Store upright with the lid on.

  • Keep within moderate temperatures.

  • Avoid extreme heat or cold to prevent wax movement or surface changes.
